The Bhakti Shastri Course has long served as the foundational educational program for devotees seeking a systematic understanding of Krishna consciousness. In an effort to make this essential study accessible regardless of financial circumstances, Vedavarsity has announced that its next Bhakti Shastri Course, beginning on September 7, 2026, will be offered entirely free of upfront tuition to qualified students around the world.

Founded by Brajsundar Das, Vedavarsity combines traditional spiritual education with modern educational technology to help students engage deeply with the teachings of the Vedic scriptures. Rather than charging mandatory fees, the institution invites voluntary contributions according to each student’s capacity, ensuring that financial limitations do not become an obstacle to spiritual learning.

The initiative reflects the timeless Vedic principle that genuine knowledge should uplift all sincere seekers. When knowledge is shared for the benefit of society, it fulfills its highest purpose.

Bhakti Shastri Course Offered Without Financial Barriers

According to Brajsundar Das, the decision to make the Bhakti Shastri Course free is rooted in a simple conviction: spiritual education should remain available to anyone sincerely interested in studying transcendental knowledge.

“Money should not be a hurdle. That is the reason we have this Bhakti Shastri entrance test, and those who cross the entrance test become eligible for doing Bhakti Shastri with zero upfront fees.”

Instead of charging tuition, Vedavarsity follows a voluntary contribution model. Students who are able may contribute according to their means, while those facing financial hardship are equally welcome to participate.

Brajsundar Das explained that many devotees today face economic uncertainty, rising living costs, and limited employment opportunities. Eliminating compulsory tuition allows sincere students to focus on learning without additional financial pressure.

This approach reflects the Vedic understanding that spiritual wisdom is ultimately meant for the welfare of all living beings (sarva-bhūta-hita), transcending material distinctions.

Rooted in Srila Prabhupada’s Educational Vision

The Bhakti Shastri Course follows the educational vision established by His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, Founder-Acharya of ISKCON.

Brajsundar Das emphasized that Prabhupada desired every member of ISKCON to gain a solid philosophical foundation through systematic study of scripture.

“Prabhupada wanted that everybody should be equipped with these four books of transcendental knowledge.”

The curriculum consists of the four foundational texts prescribed for Bhakti Shastri studies:

  • Sri Isopanishad
  • The Nectar of Instruction
  • The Nectar of Devotion
  • Bhagavad-gita As It Is

These works collectively establish the philosophical foundation of Krishna consciousness, enabling students to understand the eternal nature of the soul (ātmā), the purpose of human life, devotional service (bhakti), and one’s relationship with the Supreme Lord.

Brajsundar Das further explained:

“Prabhupada wanted that every member of ISKCON should at least have a Bhakti Shastri degree, that is the basic minimum understanding about the foundation of Krishna consciousness.”

Modern Technology Supports Traditional Learning

Although the subject matter is timeless, Vedavarsity has adopted contemporary educational tools to simplify learning and administration.

The Bhakti Shastri Course utilizes a Learning Management System (LMS) that enables students to:

  • Submit assignments online
  • Complete open-book and closed-book examinations
  • Track academic progress
  • Access course materials digitally
  • Participate in structured assessments

Brajsundar Das noted that the institution also employs AI-assisted academic management to streamline various administrative processes, including assignment handling and evaluation workflows that traditionally required significant manual coordination.

By integrating technology responsibly, Vedavarsity seeks to preserve the integrity of traditional scriptural study while making participation easier for students across different countries and time zones.

Entrance Test Serves as the Gateway

Admission into the free Bhakti Shastri Course begins with an online entrance examination.

The next entrance test is scheduled for August 15–16, 2026.

Candidates who successfully complete the examination will then submit a recommendation letter through the Vedavarsity portal to finalize their enrollment.

According to Brajsundar Das, the first entrance examination, conducted on June 15–16, 2026, was encouraging, with more than 100 students successfully qualifying for the program.

This entrance process helps ensure that students possess the basic preparation necessary to benefit from systematic scriptural study.

Future Expansion of Vedavarsity Programs

At present, the free Bhakti Shastri Course is available in English.

However, Brajsundar Das expressed the long-term vision of expanding both the academic offerings and language accessibility of Vedavarsity.

Future plans include:

  • Free Bhakti Vaibhava programs
  • Bhakti Vedanta studies
  • Additional language offerings
  • Continued English batches throughout the year

These developments remain subject to the appropriate approvals from the ISKCON Ministry of Education.

Such expansion reflects an ongoing effort to make authentic Vedic education available to a wider international audience while maintaining established educational standards.
